For this blog post, I have decided to focus on exercising the mind, body, and spirit. As the Dalai Lama says, “Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.” I try to create happiness every day.
I'm pretty sure that you will remember that I have a writing partner every Tuesday and Thursday. She makes one hour fly by, and she's also a very good sounding board. I feel like we are totally in sync, and we come up with some pretty good blog posts. We've also published a book together, and Willy Plumbottom is in his third and final installment, which I am a little bit sad about. After all, these books are like my children, but like all children, you must let them leave the nest and fly. That covers the mind part.
I don't know if I've ever actually said what my disability is, but I have Cerebral Palsy, which greatly impacts my muscle movement and my body in general. I rely on technology, Care Aids and other assistive people just to survive everyday life. Cerebral Palsy is a lack of oxygen to the brain, and each case is different. In my case, it affects my physical body, and as a result, I'm confined to a wheelchair. What, for others, are routine physical activities, are impossible for me. That's why it's important for me to have range of motion activity so that my muscles move out of their resting position. After only three sessions of exercise, I'm able to raise my arms above my head, and hopefully, I will continue to get more range of motion and become more independent.
Now on to my spirit. The spirit part kind of goes along with the body part because when I'm stretching, I like to listen to music, and my brain goes somewhere else, allowing me to relax. That allows the person who is helping me execute the stretch a lot easier. I must not forget exercising the right to laugh my butt off, which my housemates have a part in doing every single day. So, there's my exercise plan and how I stay in tip-top shape! Ha ha ha!
How are you keeping your mind, body, and spirit fit?
