Every month I give my take on an article that influenced me for my "Article Of The Month". Feel free to submit articles that you want me to look at.
I came across this article when I was experiencing a down day early in the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially I was going to link to it in "The Antisocial Butterfly" but I thought that it deserved its own piece. If you have been feeling down since COVID-19 started, give it a read.
"That Discomfort You’re Feeling Is Grief" by Scott Berinato talks about how the sadness that we are all feeling now is grief. We have lost our normal lives and need to adjust to a new way of doing things. This is explained very well in the article.
All you social workers out there will be very familiar with the five stages of grief created by Elisabeth Kubler Ross. Dr. David Kessler, who was interviewed for this article, added "meaning" to the list, so we add purpose to our grief and this makes COVID-19 easier to deal with.
I thank my sister for providing me with this article because it really helps me to survive quarantine. Now that B.C. is slowly opening up the economy again, I feel more confident that I'm going to be okay.
